Applying a transfer lock to your domain registration

Most domain names can be “locked”, which means you cannot transfer it between domain name registrars unless you unlock the domain name.

How do I enable transfer lock on my domain name?

If the type of domain you have supports the transfer lock feature, you can enable by following these steps:

  1. Log in to myMNC.
  2. Navigate to My Services > Domain Names.
  3. Click Manage next to the domain name.
  4. Click Transfer Lock under Security.
  5. Click Enable Transfer Lock.

What domain names can’t I enable transfer lock on?

Most domain name extensions support the transfer lock functionality. At the moment, “.au” domain names cannot be locked from myMNC as MNC does not offer auLOCKDOWN services.

Special “registry” transfer locks

There are some scenarios in which a transfer lock will automatically be applied to a domain name. They are:

  • If you have registered a domain name within the last 60 days, the domain name will be locked and it cannot be transferred
  • If you change the registrant contact details for a domain name, the domain will be locked for 60 days.

Applying a Transfer Lock to Your Domain Registration

A transfer lock prevents your domain from being moved to another registrar unless you manually unlock it first. This helps protect your domain from unauthorized transfers.

How to Enable Transfer Lock on Your Domain

If your domain extension supports transfer lock, you can enable it by following these steps:

  1. Log in to your myMNC account.

  2. Go to My Services > Domain Names.

  3. Click Manage next to the domain you want to lock.

  4. Under Security, select Transfer Lock.

  5. Click Enable Transfer Lock to activate the feature.

Which Domains Cannot Use Transfer Lock?

Most domain extensions support transfer lock, but “.au” domains cannot be locked from myMNC because MNC does not offer auLOCKDOWN services.

Automatic Transfer Locks Applied by Registries

Some domains are automatically locked under certain conditions:

  • If a domain was registered in the last 60 days, it will remain locked until this period ends.

  • If you change the registrant contact details, the domain will be locked for 60 days.

These restrictions help protect domain owners from unintended or unauthorized transfers.
