What happens if I have a cancelled Sole Trader or Partnership ABN on my Domain?

Your domain name's eligibility depends on having a valid ABN (Australian Business Number) or ACN (Australian Company Number). If your ABN associated with the domain becomes invalid or gets cancelled, your domain may no longer meet the eligibility criteria. This is especially common if you've switched to a new ABN or ACN and haven't updated your domain information.

To improve this process, we’ve implemented guidance from auDA to validate eligibility more effectively. This ensures fewer eligibility issues and prevents the loss of invalid .au domains. If your domain doesn’t meet the criteria after a transfer or renewal, you'll receive an email notifying you to update your registrant details within 30 days to avoid suspension.

How can I fix this issue?

You have two options to resolve this:

  1. Reactivate Your ABN
  • If you’re still operating under the same entity or company, you can reactivate your ABN. Visit this page for reactivation steps.
  • Once your ABN is active again, no further action is needed.
  1. Change the Domain Registrant
  • If you’ve moved to a new entity or company and are no longer trading under the cancelled ABN, you can perform a Change of Registrant (COR).
  • You can initiate this directly through VIPcontrol using this guide. Alternatively, you can reply to the notification email or contact us at policy@mnc.com.au for assistance.
  • As proof, we’ll need either a government-issued ID (e.g., driver’s license, passport) of the Sole Trader or a member of the Partnership requesting the change. This confirms the requester's authority.

If you're unsure about the process or need more help, don't hesitate to reach out.
